Basic Stategy

As blackjack is a form of gambling, hence the most crucial thing to note is the basic strategy.

The basic strategy is one of the best ways to play blackjack in every situation, even without knowing what is the distribution for the rest of the cards in the deck. However, many people are not willing to believe in this basic strategy as someone else probably advised them after putting in place the basic strategy and losing their hand. All gamblers must know that there is no sure win strategy in any form of gambling; and this strategy will not even allow gamblers to win half their hands.

Though having said so, this strategy has been testified by experienced gamblers that there will be short term ups and downs; over the long run, the gambler will probably break even.

To use the basic strategy, look upwards from the gambler’s hand along the left vertical corner, as well as the dealer’s up card (face card) along the top. In both situations, an ace is represented by an A. From up to down are the hard totals, soft totals and splitting hands of cards There are alternatives to rules at times which may benefit the gambler. This is known as rule variation, and will be covered in the next article. Rule variations can have an impact on borderline situations.

However, at times, the most lenient and flexible rules are the number of decks, regardless if the croupier hits (decides to take more cards) or he stands (decide not to take more cards) on a soft 17. At times, doubling is allowed after splitting.

The ultimate method of the basic strategy is to memorize and notice patterns, attempting to understand why the gambler should play every situation according to the above method. Following on, make flash cards and go over and over them until they are at the back of you hand. Do not deal out cards to yourself; do not be the croupier because the soft totals and the pairs will not occur enough to test the gambler’s knowledge.

Another part of the basic strategy is not to take insurances, even if the gambler has a blackjack. Croupiers and casinos can get away with making shrewd insurance bets when the deck is rich in tens but the non-counting gambler should always decline it, as there is a house advantage over the insurance bets, which in turn disadvantages the gambler. The house edge depends on the number of decks; from one deck of 5.82%, to eight decks (maximum number of decks for blackjack) of 7.470$.

The gambler will lose out if he takes up the insurance bets, unless he is the croupier himself.
