The game of blackjack requires gamblers to know certain rules and procedures of which the gambler has to know and abide by. In the situation where all cards have been dealt out and no one has a blackjack, the dealer then allow gamblers to play their hands.

There are several choices for the gambler to make.

The first is known as the stand. The stand is when the gambler is contented with his/her hand, hence chooses not to draw any more cards, but rather wait for everyone to finish drawing before revealing his/her cards. To signify the wish to stand, wave your hand as if to wave the croupier away.

Next, tuck your cards face down under your bet in front of you to show that you need not change anymore. The hit is where the player wishes to draw another card.

The gambler may continuously do so until he stands of busts, then the croupier moves on and the gambler then has to place his cards under the bet.

A bust in when the cards reach over 21. Another choice one may take is the double. If the gambler feels that he needs one, just one more card, then he is allowed to double his bet and will be dealt with one more random card. This choice is only available to the first two cards and sometimes on the first two cards after splitting. To tell the dealer that you want a double, place another sum of bet next to the sum of original bet.

The newly added sum has to be equal to the initial sum. In a single deck, place your cards facing up, next to your bet. The split occurs when the gambler’s first two cards are of equal value; say two 7s. When this occurs, each card is the first card of a new hand. The gambler must then place another sum of bet, equal to the initial sum, for the second hand. In other words, it is doubling the bet with doubled hands. Splitting after splitting is allowed, with aces as the exception.

Doubling after splitting is allowed most of the time, and should be clarified before the game starts. Finally, a surrender is when the gambler feels that his hand is not a good one, hence is refunded half of his initial bet. This is usually an advantage to the gambler as it adds as a protection against a blackjack, which in this case, he loses the whole bet.
