Roulette was first played in the 17th century, and is now one of the most popular European gambling games. 

A usual maximum of eight play against the house, represented by the croupier. The croupier, otherwise known as the dealer or banker, spins the roulette wheel, and also handles the money and payouts. In the European roulette, the wheel has 37 slots, 36 numbers from 1 to 36, and a zero. There is a different colored chip for everyone to avoid confusion and messing up. At the end, if the player wins, he/she gets to exchange back the colored chips for cash chips. The cash chips are plastic coins with their value amount imprinted on them. There are numerous denominations in varied colors.

The cash chips then can be taken to play other gambling games or exchanged for actual cash money at the cash desk (counter). To play roulette, the gambler first has to buy chips at the cash desk. When he/she gets the cash chips, he/she then goes to a roulette table and places his/her bet or bets on numbers. The gambler can bet on any number from zero to 37 as many times and as many numbers at a time. The bets are placed on the outside of the roulette wheel. Once every gambler at the table had their chance to place their bets, the croupier then starts to spin the roulette and launches the ball.

The croupier has to be very deft and skilful to launch he ball randomly to prevent any unfair cases. Moments before the ball drops over the slots on the roulette wheel, the croupier then says “No more bets”. The betting officially closes from that moment as the ball decides the gamblers’ fates.

Gamblers are not allowed to place or change their bets from the moment, until the ball drops into a roulette wheel slot. The croupier then places the dolly on the winning number on the roulette table, and clears the losing bets. The dolly is the payout where the croupier gives cash chips to the gambler who has won since the ball landed on the number he/she betted.

The amount of cash chips given out depends on the amount and number of bets the gambler places before the roulette had been spinned. The winners are those bets that are on or around the number that comes up, as it is near impossible for the ball to always land perfectly on a number. Furthermore, he bets on the payout win if the winning number has been represented. Only after the croupier pays the winners and collects the lost bets does the new round open and bets are once again allowed to be placed on the table.
