Roulette Probability
Playing the roulette is interesting and thrilling to gamblers. It offers gamblers a chance to win big money if their luck is good. By mathematical probability the chances of winning roulette per bet per number is 2.7%.
Though it is seemingly small, yet gambling is all about taking chances and to gamblers, who know? They might strike rich overnight! There are several rules to know about playing roulette. First is the house advantage. On a roulette table with one zero, the house advantage is 2.7%. On a double zero roulette table, the advantage is 5.26%. The house advantage is obtained by paying the gamblers who have won a few chips less than what it should had been originally if there was no advantage. This advantage rule should be further clarified with the croupier before the game starts.
This advantage is basically the casino collecting a small fee for each win. Another rule is the “En Prison” rule. This rule varies from casino to casino, and is put in place for even bets only. When the roulette spin outcome is zero, certain casinos permit their gamblers to either take back half his/her bet or leave the best as it is for another roulette spin. Hence, this suggests the name of the rule, “En Prison” which is to imprison the money for a second round. However, should the second time spin once again to hit zero, then the whole bet is lost. Although is like a “Double or nothing” rule, yet the chances of striking two times zero consecutively, by mathematical probability is 0.07%, which is extremely rare. A similar rule is the “La Partage” rule.
The la partage roulette rule is similar to the en prison rule, just that this time, it is the opposite. The gambler here loses half the bet and does not have the choice of leaving the bet en prison for a second round of roulette. This refers to the “outside” even money bets, and comes into application when the outcome is zero. Both La Partage and En Prison rules essentially reduce the “even-money” bets by half. Hence, a bet on red on a single zero roulette table which involves either rule has a house edge of 1.35%.
The payout rule also involves how many bets a gambler takes and is paid accordingly. If the gambler bets on one number only, and the number hits, then he is paid 35 times the amount of money he placed originally. For a gambler who bets on two numbers, yet only one number hits, then the payout is reduced to 17 times, otherwise known as a split bet.
